THE DAN STURTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Daniel Sturtz was one of the most dedicated members of the Canton Rugby Football Club. Dan served as the head coach for the Canton Men's 15s team, and also as the creator and head coach of the Canton Area High School rugby program. Sadly, Dan passed away suddenly at the age of 43 in 2016, just as he was starting to see his vision for the growth of youth rugby come alive.
Dan was known to use his own personal funds to develop and grow youth rugby in Stark county by making sure money was never an obstacle for youths wanting to play "his" beloved sport. The money Dan donated went towards registration fees, supplying gear, and providing transportation. The Canton Rugby Foundation is determined for his legacy to live on, so that future generations of ruggers continue to reap the rewards of Dan's giving heart, long after his passing.
The Scholarship Fund is actively used to help offset the costs for Youth registration for those who cannot otherwise afford to play. A player must first apply for reduced dues through RugbyOhio and then work with the their coach to obtain additional assistance through the Scholarship Fund.
Please join us in celebrating our friend, Dan, as we honor him in a way we know he would appreciate. Visit our donor page to see how your tax deductible donation can be specifically directed to the Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Go Forward. Be There.
